Trusting someone takes time. It's a process that requires a lot of patience and love--especially when such a bond needs to be forged between a rescued animal with an unknown past and a new family with expectations of their own. Written by Maddalena Schiavo and based on illustrator Eleonora Pace's real-life journey of adopting a dog whom she named Mela (Italian for "apple"), this tender picture book, narrated in first person, will strike a chord with animal lovers and pet owners of every age and provide a springboard for social and emotional learning (SEL).
Mela sets out to explore the river outside her village but quickly ends up in trouble when her little boat is swept downstream and into the dense jungle. She encounters a crocodile, a leopard, and some monkeys, offering each a prize return for helping her find her way home but the animals snatch up their rewards without helping Mela back to her village. Just when she's about to give up, an elephant shows Mela that kindness is its own reward. This fable is told with authentic Thai customs and includes an author's note with more Thai traditions and language.
At breakfast she learns she has been given a ""fresh start,"" and she decides to celebrate by doing things differently for the rest of the day. Melena chooses not to fight with her brother, and shares the money she has rather than demanding to be repaid by a less fortunate friend. This story introduces children to the concept of jubilee, which stresses the important principles of debt relief, generosity, and forgiveness. Aaron Boyd's mixed-media illustrations are as bright and vivid as a sun-washed day.
This humorous picture book uses robots to help kids explore big emotions. Did you know robots never stay up past their bedtime? They power down right at seven o'clock. And when robots are upset, they never hit. They use their programming language: BLEEP BLOOP! But even robots with all the latest updates will occasionally malfunction. Meltdowns happen. And while they are no fun, they don't last forever. Meltdown! normalizes big emotions and explores some ways to cope with even the biggest mega robot meltdowns. With colourful illustrations full of imaginative details, this pun-tastic picture book is fun to read for robo-kids and grown-up robots alike.

Since the accident, Taylor’s memory has been fuzzy. But at least she’s awake. Who knows what her boyfriend, Scott, will remember when he comes out of the coma. Facing choices she’d rather ignore, Taylor searches for something more solid than whispers and something bigger than blame to face the future and forgive herself.
It was the largest mass court martial of the Korean War, with one of the most decorated regiments in the US Army tried for willful disobedience. Nicknamed the Borinqueneers, the 65th Regiment was the envy of generals and the pride of Puerto Rico. How could a regiment known for honourable service in two world wars lay down their arms and refuse to fight? From their founding in 1901 to their service in the Global War on Terrorism, author Talia Aikens-Nuûez tells the stories of these soldiers, their successes, their failures, and the discrimination they faced in their service of the United States.
